Breakdown of Casino Levy at Integrated Resorts

Question

Mr Terry Lee
Nominated MP

To ask the Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports since the opening of Resorts World Sentosa

(a) what is the breakdown of the total amount of casino levy collected by (i) day levy and (ii) annual levy; and

(b) how will this collection benefit Singaporeans.

Written Answer

As at 10 May 2010, the total casino entry levy collection by the casino operators is about $70m. It would be premature to draw conclusions on casino patronage and its attendant social impact from the entry levy data as it is still early days, given that the casinos have just opened.

All casino entry levies are paid to the Singapore Totalisator Board and are used to fund projects which benefit the community. MCYS will continue to ensure that sufficient resources are dedicated to tackle the issue of problem gambling, through research studies and programmes.
