Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Mrs Yu-Foo Yee Shoon will be representing Singapore at the Fourth ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council Meeting held on 15 and 16 August in Danang, Vietnam to discuss the following:
(a) Progress in Priority work areas for the ASCC in 2010;
(b) ASEAN Leaders’ Joint Statement on Human Resources and Skills Development for Economic Recovery and Growth;
(c) ASEAN Declaration on the Enhancement of Social Welfare and Development of ASEAN Women and Children.
The ASCC Council is one of three ASEAN Community Councils – the other two being the ASEAN Political-Security Community Council and the ASEAN Economic Community Council. It discusses ASEAN's social agenda, which is focused on poverty eradication and social and human development. The scope of ASCC Council’s work includes the environment, education, culture, health, youth, women, children, manpower, social welfare, and civil service training matters.
