The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) invites members of public to provide feedback and comments on proposed changes to the Women’s Charter, at
http://reach.gov.sg.
The Women’s Charter is the basis of family law in Singapore. It was last amended substantially in 1996. The current review seeks to enhance the enforcement of maintenance orders, update marriage registration requirements, and address the impact of divorces.
The proposed amendments are the result of deliberation by various government agencies. Various recommendations from key stakeholders such as the National Family Council, the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations, and the Law Reform Committee of the Singapore Academy of Law have also been included in the proposed amendments.
The changes are reflected in a draft Bill and explained in an accompanying paper, both of which are posted on REACH at
http://app.reach.gov.sg/olcp/asp/ocp/ocp01d1.asp?id=6204 for public reference. The consultation period will be from 13 Sep 10 to 26 Sep 10. All are welcome to give feedback.
