MORE “upstream” programmes will be launched to help troubled youth well before they end up on the wrong side of the law. Among other measures, the Government is rolling out a $1.2 million pilot programme to reach out to youth-at-risk who are not covered by other schemes.

THE Government hopes to do more to tackle the issue of youth at risk, in particular through strengthening its “up-stream” intervention, to reduce chances of them reoffending. It has set aside $1.2 million over the next two years for a programme which seeks to engage at-risk youth and help them integrate back into society.

KEMENTERIAN Pembangunan Masyarakat, Belia dan Sukan (MCYS) akan membelanjakan $15 juta sepanjang tiga tahun akan datang untuk merangsang mutu dan bekalan tenaga kerja dalam sektor asuhan kanak-kanak. Langkah-langkah baru akan juga diperkenal bagi mengekalkan, menarik dan mengembangkan kerjaya guru asuhan kanak-kanak, kata Menteri Negara (Pembangunan Masyarakat, Belia dan Sukan), Cik Yu-Foo Yee Shoon, sewaktu perbahasan belanjawan kementeriannya di Parlimen semalam.
