Description/Excerpt:
In October 2001, amendments were made to the Children and Young Persons Act to include emotional and psychological abuse under child abuse. The Standards were introduced in February 2002 to provide clear requirements and practices on the referral and management of child protection cases, and will be relevant to:
- schools
- private and voluntary sector partners who deal with child protection cases
- healthcare services
- Child Protection & Welfare Officers (CPWO)
- the Police
- judges
- families and general public who want to know how children are protected
